The Project - What are we doing to help?
In just five days from 10-15 June, we're going to roll up our sleeves, don hard hats and get to work. The flights and accommodation are paid for by Tamar, the building and materials funded by ourselves and donations, and we are providing the labour.
Where possible the materials have been sourced locally and all skilled workers are local labourers and artisans.
We want a challenge, but our priority is to complete the classroom so that it is fit for use on the Monday after we leave. So with the help and guidance of Across the Divide this is what we are going to do:
Building
Main building to accommodate two classes of 33: This will be one large room and have a separator so the room can also be used as a larger hall.
Toilet block: For 12 children (6 boys and 6 girls).
Secure room: It was recommended that we build a facility within the building to hold valuables, musical instruments and other items that we donate.
Outside play area: Jungle gym equipment
Providing equipment
In addition to the building work, we also have a wish list of equipment for the benefit of the whole school which is listed on the right. Everything from a second hand piano for £600 to chairs for £6. Our aim is to supply the following, but this depends on us reaching our targets.
We are also donating learning aids such as books, maps, posters and musical instruments from family and schools, so if you have something you think they would like please give it to a member of staff and we will arrange shipment

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone that has donated money to the school.
We have raised:
£21,387
A MASSIVE Thank You to
our top 5 Fundrasiers:
1. Tanya Goodin: £1,910
2. Neil Jackson: £1,070
3. Jessica: £1,070
4. Justin: £850
5. Henry: £750
Some of the items we need:
Desks x 33 @ £40 each
The new building will accommodate 2 classes of 33 children. They are going to re-use the tables and chairs from the old classroom for one class, but will need new equipment for the Year R (5.5 to 6 year olds) pupils.
Chairs x 33 @ £6 each
Window repairs x 10 = £20
One of the things that need repairing in the main school is the windows. They need refilling as are currently looking rather dangerous.
Blackboards x 11 @ £400 each
Most of the school's blackboards date from when the school was built 1961. They are incredibly hard to use and the teachers have to use a water solution to be able to write on them. As well as two blackboards for the new building, we would also like to donate blackboards for the main school.
Pinboards x 18 @ £100 each
They also have very few pinboards for the school to use. One of the teachers we met was very enthusiastic about this. Sometimes it's the small things that make our lives easier...
Piano = £600
One of the items the school put on their 'wish list' was a piano. We would like to buy them a second hand one locally if possible. The choir teacher did the best he could without one, but you can imagine the difference it would make to the Girls School Choir.
Jungle Gym = £400
We would like to build a Jungle Gym for the younger pupils to enjoy. They don't currently have any sort of climbing apparatus or play area.
Sporting equipment = £500
We wanted to get something for the older boys of the school who are quite hard to keep in school. The headmaster suggested sports equipment. We thought a cricket set and/or a basket ball hoop and balls would help!
